Be Stiff - The Stiff Records Story by Richard Balls. A book! Published by Soundcheck Books. I used this book when writing the section concerning the demise of Stiff. A good read.
Here’s One I Made Earlier - featuring Mick Glossop Here’s one I made Earlier is a podcast series created by Jim featuring an industry veteran who focusses on a key work in their career. In this episode he discusses “The Crack” by “The Ruts”, produced by Mick Glossop, who also produced TWP. It’s worth listening to as many of this series as you can. Jim is a sensitive and knowledgable interviewer making for an educational and instructive 45 minutes.
Fathers of Fusion - FT This is a paywalled article so I have not reproduced it. It’s really about TGU but Tim and Hami also discuss their time with Furniture. In particular their recollection of playing in Amman, Jordan for the Crown Prince is sourced from here.
Eighties Archive Podcast Episode #115 - Jim Irvin A new (2026) 90 minute interview with Jim. Lots of content about Furniture and you also get to find out about Jim’s early years job at United Biscuits.

Press and curios
- BBC — Top of the Pops, 10 July 1986 - landing page for the TOTP broadcast featuring Furniture. The show is not available but the listing is.
- Furniture — Janice Long Session #1, 20 February 1985 (YouTube) - Don’t miss this. Also in the videos section.
- Rocklist — Albums of the Year archives - Furniture didn’t end up on any ‘best of the year lists’. Why not!? It was admittedly a great period but was ‘Whiplash Smile’ by Billy Idol really better than TWP?
